Education
Kisa aims to ensure education is accessible to every child in the community by providing targeted support across the whole school to keep fees affordable for all families.
Community Development
Kisa has local trainers who work with families and young adults to develop life skills, financial literacy and animal husbandry.
Wellbeing
Kisa is dedicated to providing safe clean water, good sanitation and hygiene to families, the school, church, and wider community.
Why Our Impact Matters
Whilst the number of people defined as in poverty in Uganda has declined slightly over recent years the number of families vulnerable to falling into poverty has increased and the economic shock of Covid 19 has had a dramatic effect on both vulnerability and poverty levels.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
As a framework for this, we are working in 9 of the 17 areas identified in the UN Sustainable Goals:
No Poverty
We are working on sustainable projects that will provide opportunities for families to generate sufficient income above the poverty line.
Zero Hunger
The support of donations help us to subsidize meals for the children at school, and our projects encourage families to grow and maintain their own produce.
Good Health and Wellbeing
Our project educates families to build their own safe clean storage for utensils used for cooking and eating, and water dispensers (tippy-taps) that help to keep hands clean when washed. In addition, we have partnered with Days of Girls to provide washable sanitary towels kits for girls.
Quality Education
Kisa supports the running of the school in Nakaseke that follows the national Ugandan curriculum, and keeps fees low to encourage children from poorer families to benefit from a quality education.
Gender Equality
The school in Nakaseke and the projects that Kisa work on, provide equal opportunities for both girls and boys in their education and their families.
Clean Water and Sanitation
Kisa has partnered with Amor Pure to deliver a simple filtration system that provides clean and safe water to the school, families and wider area.
Affordable Clean Energy
The school in Nakaseke is equipped with solar panels to provide lights during the night.
Decent Work and Economic Growth
The Family Development Project provides enterprise opportunities for the families to develop an income, and a 'micro-savings' scheme has been set up for families to access funds needed to grow their business.
Reduced Inequalities
Kisa has helped to provide support for hospital transport as well as access to needed medicines. In addition, the school is inclusive and supports a child at school with Downs Syndrome.
